The Endocrine Society has defined bio-identical hormones as ‘compounds that have exactly the same chemical and molecular structure as hormones that are produced in the human body’. They are synthesised from a plant chemical extracted from yams and soy at a molecular level. They differ from synthetic hormones, which have a different molecular structure.

Bioidentical hormones are defined as man-made hormones that are very similar to the hormones produced by the human body. BHRT can be used to treat men and women when their hormone levels drop or become unbalanced. It’s most frequently used to ease symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.
